Rules for .ltd.uk & .plc.uk Second Level Domains
The .ltd.uk and .plc.uk Second Level Domains are managed by Nominet UK and are intended to permit a unique mapping between company names registered under the Companies Act 1985 [and (in Northern Ireland) under the Companies (Northern Ireland) order 1986] with Companies House and a DNS name.
Unlimited companies registered under the Companies Act 1985, unincorporated bodies, partnerships and bodies incorporated under other legislation are not eligible for an entry in the .ltd.uk or .plc.uk Second Level Domains.
The only characters from a registered company name allowed in a DNS name are the letters A to Z, a to z, the numbers 0 to 9 and hyphen. These are be known as the "allowable" set.
Certain words must be removed from the registered company name before the DNS name is generated, these are known as the "reserved" words. They are "limited", "public limited company" and the Welsh Language versions along with the abbreviations of these words, e.g. ltd, plc, ccc. There are believed to be other "reserved" words such as "International".
The rules are intended to represent the way that Companies House (or The Companies Registry in Northern Ireland) interpret names in order to produce a unique match.
The requester of the name may be required by Nominet UK to provide a copy of the certificate of incorporation of the applicant and/or a letter on company letterhead, signed by a director or the company secretary of the applicant. The application must state the full name of the company as registered at Companies House or The Northern Ireland Companies Registry along with the company registration number. Applications for .ltd.uk or .plc.uk Domain Names are processed manually. Nominet UK endeavors to, but cannot guarantee that, applications will be processed within three working days of receipt of the request by the Automaton.

Rules for .IT domain names
Domain names within the ccTLD "it" can be assigned to subjects belonging to a member state of the European Union. Associations without VAT numbers or fiscal code (or equivalent) and persons not owning a VAT number (or equivalent) can register a single domain name, only. What are the benefits of dot it over other names? If we have to point that out to you maybe you shouldn't be here! It is one of the most frequently used words in the English language and it is only a matter of time before some big dot it start-ups hit the headlines. So why not get in there before they all go, and be a headline grabber? They are marketable, memorable and easy to combine in phrases like buyon.it, paywith.it. The best bit is that dot it's are relatively new, so you have a considerably better chance of getting a good one. How many domains can I register in my name? Dot it domains can be registered by companies with a VAT number and private individuals with a National Insurance number. A legal presence in a country that is a member of the European Community is required, so US companies and individuals may not apply. European private individuals without a VAT number can register only 1 dot it domain. However, companies or individuals with a VAT number issued by their EC country can register an unlimited number of dot it domains.
Which characters can I use in my domain name? And are there any restrictions?
The Italian NIC has imposed some restrictions on the names you can register. Your name must be between 3 and 63 characters excluding the extension. Your name can only contain the characters 0-9 a-z and the - character. Your name cannot start with - nor can it end with -.
